Water at the back instead of a road
The canals are the thing everyone knows about Tipton and they do change how some jobs are done. Where a property backs onto a cut there is no rear vehicle access at all, so anything going in at the back goes in on foot along a towpath. That is perfectly manageable — glass comes cut to size and gets carried in — but it wants knowing beforehand rather than being discovered on the morning. If your garden backs onto water, or the only way round is through the house, say so when you book.
Older property near the water
The housing closest to the canals tends to be the oldest in the town, and a good deal of it still has timber windows or early replacements dropped into original openings. Damp is more of a factor down there than it is higher up, and it shows in the frames rather than the glass — softened timber at the bottom rail, and units sitting in water because the drainage has silted up. Both are worth checking when the glass is being changed, otherwise a new unit goes into the same conditions that finished the last one.
Misted units on the estates
Away from the water Tipton is mostly twentieth-century estate housing, and that is where the bulk of the misted units are. The frame stays put and only the glass unit is swapped, which is quick and a great deal cheaper than a new window.

Common questions
My house backs onto the canal and there is no rear access. Is that a problem?
No, it just needs saying beforehand. Glass comes cut to size and is carried in, either through the house or along the towpath, and we plan the route before the day rather than on it.
My window frame is soft at the bottom. Is that the glass?
No, that is the frame, usually from water sitting where it should have drained away. It is worth sorting at the same time as the glass, because a new unit put back into a wet rebate will not last as long as it should.
