A city largely rebuilt, and it shows in the windows
Coventry was hit exceptionally hard in 1940 and much of the city was rebuilt in the decades that followed. That leaves a housing stock weighted towards the late 1940s through the 1960s, with standardised estate housing and window openings that repeat. Around that sit the surviving Victorian and Edwardian suburbs — Earlsdon, Stoke, Radford, Coundon — where the housing is older and the glazing more varied. Knowing which of the two you're dealing with usually tells you what's in the frame before we arrive.
Rental property and landlords
Coventry has two universities and a large private rented sector, and rental property brings its own glazing work: broken glass between tenancies, failed units picked up at inspection, and door locks and handles that need to be secure and working. If you've got several properties, it's usually simpler to look at them together.
Misted units and broken glass
The bread and butter. A blown unit is replaced inside the existing frame; broken glass is made safe first, then measured and replaced. Boarding up where the glass can't go in straight away.
Commercial and shopfront work
Larger panes in shopfronts and units, usually toughened or laminated. A broken frontage gets made safe so the business can keep trading, then replaced properly.
