The estates mist; the old centre often has no units at all
Willenhall is really two housing stocks with different problems. Out at New Invention, Short Heath and the estates on the edges, the houses are on their first or second set of sealed units and those are the ones fogging up now. Closer to the middle, the older terraces still have a fair amount of original timber with single glazing in it — no sealed unit, so nothing to blow, but a different set of jobs entirely. It is worth saying which end of town you are at when you ring, because it changes what we bring.
Why cleaning never works
The haze is not on the glass, it is between the panes. When the seal round the edge of the unit lets go, damp air gets into the cavity and the desiccant in the spacer bar eventually gives up holding it. After that you get condensation on the inside faces where no cloth will ever reach, and often a tidemark that builds up over the years. Nothing can be done to a failed unit to bring it back — it is replaced, not repaired.
Fitted into the window you already have
The frame stays. The old unit is taken out, the rebate cleaned up, the new unit bedded in and the beads put back. On a straightforward window it is a short job, and there is no disturbance to decoration inside or out.

My house is one of the older terraces. Is my glass even double glazed?
Not necessarily. A lot of the older stock around the centre still has single glazing in timber. You can usually tell by looking at the edge of the pane where it meets the frame — a sealed unit shows a spacer bar set back from the edge. If you are not sure, send a photo.
Can misting be cleaned or repaired?
No. The moisture is sealed between the two panes and the seal that failed cannot be remade in the window. The unit is replaced, which is a much smaller job than it sounds.
